Honouring the generous members of our community who have decided to leave a bequest to Geelong Grammar in their Will.

We believe that your decision to leave a bequest deserves recognition and appreciation. By joining the Biddlecombe Society, you become part of a community of visionary individuals who share a commitment to shaping the future of Geelong Grammar School.

“I firmly believe that scholarships support an individual’s future with an amazing opportunity that shifts their paradigm from ordinary to one of possibility.

This is why I have committed to the Geelong Grammar School Scholarship Fund by including it in my future planning via my Will and as a result become a member of the Biddlecombe Society. ”

Alison Martin (Past Parent)

“Both my sons benefited from a GGS secondary education. I have always been interested in First Nations education so decided I would like some of them to have the same benefits. Consequently, I have donated to the Indigenous Scholarship Fund and have left a bequest in my will.”

Barry Matthews (OGG: Cuthbertson House 1963 and Past Parent)

“Geelong Grammar’s adventure education programme is a unique cornerstone of its holistic approach to education. The school recognises that education extends beyond the classroom. By the School embracing and encouraging outdoor activities students learn such life-skills as resilience, confidence, determination, and teamwork. In doing so, we empower future generations to navigate life’s challenges and to thrive in an ever-changing world.

This is why I joined the Biddlecombe Society and believe it should be whole-heartedly supported.”

David Angliss (OGG: Perry House 1963}

“Throughout our lives we have been convinced that education is the key to success and fulfillment in life. The timing of education may vary depending on opportunities available at the time. Accordingly, we believe that the support of scholarships through a gift in our Wills gives a broader range of students the opportunity to benefit from the Geelong Grammar School offerings. We are delighted to be part of the Biddlecombe Society as a result.”

Ron (Past Operational Staff member) and Mary Brandy

“I was a beneficiary of a Geelong Grammar School education in the 1980s and able to offer the same opportunity to our sons.

By including the Foundation in my Will and thus joining the Biddlecombe Society, I hope regional students are able to experience all the opportunities Geelong Grammar School offers into the future.”

Tim Hawker (OGG: Francis Brown House 1984 and Past Parent)

“Many years ago, I left a legacy to the school when making a will. This was done because I wanted to give something back. The school had given me so much; a good education, sufficient for university entry, exposure to classic language and literature and sporting skills.”

Denis Robertson (OGG: Manifold House 1953)

“I was fortunate to receive a Hermitage Old Girls Association scholarship enabling me to achieve an education I would not achieve in my hometown.

My bequest to Geelong Grammar School, via the Foundation, will give future students the opportunity to receive the advantages whose families see their children’s potential.”

Nathalie (Adamson) Gash, (The Hermitage 1964)

“My son attended Geelong Grammar School for his high school years, principally as a day boarder, but was a boarder during his Timbertop year. It was a financial struggle to pay the school fees as a single mother. However, I believed it was an investment in his future to enable him to attend the school to experience the excellent academic, sporting, and music education, as well as socialise with students from very diverse cultures and backgrounds. Having retired after many years of professional work, I am in a position to provide some financial support to students who may otherwise not be able to afford the fees at Geelong Grammar School. As a result, I became a member of the Biddlecombe Society. I hope that my bequest will help provide scholarships for students in the future who will help maintain the important diversity within the student population.”

Sue McKnight (Past Parent)

“An education at Geelong Grammar School is an exceptional thing and to be able to help facilitate this for others through contributing to the Foundation, in whatever way we can, is wonderful. We have seen what a great experience our children had at Geelong Grammar School, how they flourished and to be able to do something- no matter how small – to help make that a reality for others is one of the best feelings you can have. It’s that felt experience at the school that motivated us to support the Foundation and help enable this experience for others. We are delighted to be members of the Biddlecombe Society.

For us it is important to do what you can when you can, so others can too…”

Andrew (Past Parent) and Jackie Cochrane (Past Parent and Current Staff Member)

“Over 50 years I have helped schools to ask their communities to include the school in their wills. Put simply, my career was in philanthropic fund raising. And if I was to ask others to leave a bequest, then I needed to lead by example. Geelong Grammar School, being my school, I didn’t need to be persuaded; I happily have included the school in my will. The amount of a bequest is not important; it’s the intent which counts. I am very pleased to be part of the Biddlecombe Society.”
