The largest gathering of the Biddlecombe Society was held at the refurbished Barwon Heads Golf Club on Thursday 26 March, with 18 new member pins presented. It was a showcase of warm connections and generosity of spirit in support of Geelong Grammar School; a gathering made all the more meaningful as the first event in the 50th anniversary year of the Geelong Grammar Foundation.
Hosted by Chair of the Biddlecombe Society, Jim Gall (Cu’91) and featuring a timely and uplifting update on all things GGS from Principal Rebecca Cody, the event celebrated the now 306 living bequestors who have made the ultimate commitment to a gift in their Will to secure the future of our great School.
It was a great reminder of the power of small beginnings, connections and conversations that create big impact.
Past Chair of the Foundation, Bill Ranken (M’72) reminded guests of the exceptional advancements that have been made possible across the past 50 years of the Foundation: from support for capital projects like SPACE, the Toorak Wellbeing Centre and Timbertop units, to the now near $60million endowment for scholarships and the growth in participation in the Biddlecombe Society and bequest programme from just 15 to now over 300.
The most powerful contribution of the day came from past Clyde School Scholar and recent graduate Sarah Singh (Cl’25). Sarah’s reflections on the life changing impact of her scholarship, the power of the belief and generosity of donors who enabled her exceptional GGS education, and the opportunity this afforded her to be genuinely curious and courageous was heartfelt and touched all in the room.

It is the ambition of the Geelong Grammar Foundation that in the 50th year we will secure the commitment of 50 new members of the Biddlecombe Society. An ambitious goal but one which serves to reinforce the deep connection and spirited commitment of our community to the enduring legacy of Geelong Grammar School.
As we celebrate 50 years of the Foundation, the Biddlecombe Society looks forward to hosting four further lunch events across 2026 in Adelaide, Timbertop, Melbourne and Sydney.
