Charlie Sutherland (P’86), as Chairman of the Biddlecombe Society, hosted a wonderful lunch in the Utzon Room of the Sydney Opera House on Tuesday 26 November, for members and their guests, together with other members of our Geelong Grammar community living in NSW / Sydney who were attending to learn more about the bequest programme and Biddlecombe Society.
Charlie was particularly pleased to welcome Harriet Furphy (Cl’20) as guest speaker and a Michael Collins Persse Scholarship recipient, together with her parents, Adam (M’89) and Nean (Cl’88). Harriet spoke about her time at Geelong Grammar and her impressive journey at Burgmann College, ANU, where she has just completed her fourth year of studies in a complex mix of double degrees and languages, of an impressive five-year study package. There was great appreciation for Harriet’s story, and her achievements to date, by all in attendance.
In addition, we welcomed Vanessa Mahon, Chair of the Geelong Grammar Foundation, together with Andrew Cochrane, a member of the Foundation Board, and Elissa Gale, Head of Advancement at Geelong Grammar School.
David Angliss (P’62), who resides in Queensland, was able to join the event and kindly led us in the Grace, with the traditional school version in latin!
Our annual Sydney Biddlecombe Society lunch is a significant event in our schedule, and we look forward to reconnecting with those members and their guests in 2025.
