Another GGS treasure from the School Archives
A remarkable collection of scrapbooks documents the lives and interests of pupils at Glamorgan prep school, now Geelong Grammar’s Toorak Campus. They were compiled by teacher Katherine Alexander, known affectionately to her pupils as Miss Ally. Her appointment in 1909 represented the beginning of a 41-year career at the school, during which time she dedicated herself to her young charges, instilling in them a sense of duty and high standards.
Miss Ally followed the careers of her former pupils with interest and kept news clippings of their achievements in her scrapbooks, along with Christmas cards and other memorabilia. They provide a unique insight into school life as well as an important social commentary on the first half of the twentieth century. Miss Ally retired in 1950, aged 67.
